This wash is a hidden gem of geologic wonders. There are several dry falls and tight squeezes that make this a very challenging, but rewarding, hike. This is a difficult 8 mile hike with an elevation gain/loss of up to 500 feet. 8 AMñ4 PM. (Ocotillo Wells) Take CA-78/79 to Julian and turn right on CA-78 E (Main St.) and go 34 miles. Turn right on Split Mountain Rd. and go 8 miles to meet the Canyoneer host. Consolidate into 4WD or high-clearance vehicles and caravan to the trailhead. No facilities. (GPS N33.038255, W116.097017) We are always hoping to see wildlife. Please leave dogs at home and come enjoy nature. About Nature Hikes: Canyoneers are San Diego Natural History Museum volunteers trained to teach appreciation of plants and animals in southern California. Walks are open to the public; no reservations are required. For more information visit the Canyoneer hikes page--https://www.sdnhm.org/calendar/public-programs/canyoneer-hikes/
